Answers, without the small print.

Quick answers for players on the night and for the people running the game.

For players

Playing on the night.

No. CornyBits runs in the browser on your phone or computer. Scan the QR code on the screen, or go to play.cornybits.com and type the code. You play under a display name for that game.

If you would like to keep a history of your games, you can make a free player account with your email address. You sign in with a one-time code, and signing in never signs you up for marketing.

Join a game

No. Open the game again on the same phone and browser, or scan the code again, and you carry on as the same player with your answers and score. The game does not wait for anyone, so a question that closes while you are away is missed.

Answers count only while the question is open, and the game keeps time on its own clock rather than your phone’s. Each player answers once, and in a team game the captain answers for the team.

Display names are 2 to 24 characters. Links, email addresses and offensive words are refused, each name can only be used once in a game, and the host can rename or remove anyone.

The screen and other players see your display name, your team and your score. Your email address is never shown on the screen or to other players.

A venue that links CornyBits to EventSync sees each game’s standings there, with your display name and score. It only receives your email and your games if you choose to share them with it, which you can stop at any time from your profile. Guest names are replaced with an anonymous label after the venue’s retention period.

For hosts

Running the game.

A CornyBits organisation, a TV or projector with a web browser, and a phone, tablet or laptop to host from. Players use their own phones, or the computers in the room.

Open play.cornybits.com/display in the TV’s browser. It shows a 6-character pairing code, which you enter in the host controls. The screen only ever shows what the room should see.

Open the display page

The game lives on the CornyBits server, not on your device. Open the host controls on another device and take over. Only one device controls a game at a time, and timers keep running while you switch.

Yes. Offensive names are refused as players join, and you can rename, remove or ban anyone. Captions and player quotes wait for your approval before anyone else sees them, and you can approve each new player or lock joining whenever you like.

Yes. Build packs in the editor, add pictures and sound clips, or import questions you already have in a spreadsheet. Ready-made starter packs are there for your first night.

Final standings go up on the screen when you finish. Results, score history and reports stay in the management app, where you can export them.
